THE LOVES OF AARON BURR
EIGHTEENTH CENTURY EYE PORTRAITS
Lovers' Eyes were Georgian miniatures, usually watercolour on ivory, depicting the eye of a spouse or loved one. Commissioned for sentimental reasons to be worn as bracelets, brooches, pendants or rings with richly decorative frames, these small master works served the same emotional need as lockets concealing portraits or locks of hair. Inspired by eighteenth century eye portraits, each one offered here is individual and unique.
